Enhancing Well-being for College Student Success
What is wellness coaching?
The goal of Wellness Coaching is to identify and create the conditions in your life that will lead you to a life of thriving and optimal performance. This is a free service for MSU students. Wellness coaching enhances your physical and mental well-being through empowering conversations which help to identify and utilize your personal strengths to achieve your goals. Coaching takes place in a safe, supportive environment where you will work to identify your past successes and identify obstacles preventing you from making healthy choices now. This strength-based approach will enhance your self-acceptance; give you strategies to navigate any transitions you might be facing, and help you thrive. Coaching topics can include, but are not limited to, anything that impacts your health, fitness, and general well-being.
How does it work?
Wellness coaching uses a person’s own motivations and strengths to support behavior change(s) through a collaborative, non-judgmental partnership. A Wellness coach will work with you to help you set and achieve wellness goals, balance dimensions of health and wellness, and learn resilience and coping skills for a well life.
The initial wellness coaching session is approximately
50 - 60 minutes for which you will meet with a wellcoaches© Certified Health & Wellness Coach. After an initial face-to-face meeting, wellness coaching can happen via e-mail, phone, or continued face-to-face follow-up sessions as needed.
For more information or to schedule a Wellness coaching session, please contact the Fitness Programs Coordinator, Kristin Traskie at (517) 353-7868 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
A Wellness Coaching Testimonial:
“The Wellness Coaching program is absolute game changer! I did not join the program feeling broken or helpless - I joined as a person who is passionate about health and wellness and wanted to know what else was out there for me. During my first appointment, my wellness coach and I clicked immediately. My wellness coach was very down-to-Earth, positive, uplifting, and serious about helping people reach their goals. My wellness coach connected me to resources that I did not even know were available in the MSU and East Lansing community. I always felt comfortable to express my opinions and alter my goals on my terms, for my future. Because of this program, my head is in a much better space. I found ways to learn to say 'no' and to put myself and my health first. I started practicing mindfulness, saw a dietitian, increased my knowledge of strength training, moved up weights while lifting, started getting regular massages, started seeing a therapist, and so much more. While I was reluctant to take on all of this at first, I found that I was able to re-prioritize my life and focus on the things I'm passionate about, including (and most importantly) taking care of myself. For those that are nervous about joining the program, give the wellness coaching program one hour and I promise you will not regret it. Like I said, I am a healthy and strong person who was just interested in finding out what more I could do to better myself and the pay-off has been ten-fold. Thank you, to my wellness coach, for helping me re-focuses on daily health and wellness, while leaving me with the tools to transform my future!"
